How To Stay Fit Without Expensive Gym Membership

It is easy to assume that in order to lose weight or stay fit you need to pay out for expensive gym membership. Whilst being a member of a gym can be beneficial, it can also be costly. If you are working out to gain muscle mass then a gym is probably best, but generally most exercise can be carried out without the need to pay for a gym.

Working Out At Home

You might not realise it, but it is possible to workout at home. In fact, there are many different exercises you can do in the comfort of your own home. One of the  best things about working out at home is the fact that you can do it at a time that suits you. When your exercise regime takes place at home you have no excuse not to carry it out in the way that it should be done.

You can’t not go because the car has broken down or skip a day because the gym is closed. Whenever you are at home, you can work out and that makes staying motivated much easier.

For starters you can download fitness videos or invest in exercise DVDs. These are great because they allow you to follow a set regime and monitor your progress. There are videos like this at all skill levels too, which is great because there is something for everyone. You can even buy more than one of these to help keep things interesting and varied.

You should also make use of things that you have at home to make your workouts much more effective. Rather than weights at the gym, you can use tins of food to work out with at home. This helps to work your body even harder. There are also a range of exercises you can download to try at home. Just make sure that you warm up and warm down properly so that you don’t do yourself damage.

Working Out At Work

The chances are that you spend much of your day at work, so you don’t want this to go to waste. You probably can’t put on your sweats and start working-out in the middle of the office. However that doesn’t mean that you have to spend the whole day exercise free.

For starters you need to do what you can to keep your body moving. Every hour or so you should go for a walk around the office and get your blood pumping. You can also take positive steps to ensure that you get enough exercise in your day. For example you should avoid the elevator and take the stairs all day instead. It might only seem like a small change but you’ll be surprised at just how much of a change it can make.

Rather than wasting your lunch time, try and get out and go for a walk around the block. In fact you could even rope in some colleagues to go with you. Just getting out and getting your blood pumping is a great way to improve your health.

Working Out At Weekends

It is easy to get lazy at weekends and assume that you can take the day off. Whilst there is nothing wrong with this, you need to make sure that you don’t ruin all of your weekday hard work. Weekends are a fantastic time to get out and about with friends and family, so why not combine both?

If you look locally you are bound to find a number of local walks and hiking routes. Get the whole family together and go for a long walk together. Not only will you get to spend time with everyone, but you’ll be working out without even feeling like you are.

Out of the two days of a weekend, you should try to get a workout in at least one of the days. That way you can relax on the other day without worrying too much. The trick is to try and get your workout in as early in the day as possible, that way you don’t run out of time. Lots of people prefer to get their workout done first thing on a Saturday morning. That way it is out of the way and you can get on with it and relaxing knowing that your weekend has been well spent.

You can even undertake fun new hobbies to exercise well – cycling, skating, hiking, swimming etc.

Committing To Your New Health Regime

If you are putting all of this effort into workout without a gym then it is important not to waste it. If you workout at home and then order a pizza you really won’t notice the difference. Instead, what you should be looking at is positive changes you can make to your diet.

For example, you should have plenty of access to water at home and at work, so you know you have drunk enough each day. Go for fruit infused and other flavoured waters if plain water doesn’t excite you enough.

You also need to get organised with food and snacks, to make sure that you always have access to a good healthy food. Of course a little bit of what you fancy does you good – the key is balance!

If you are working hard at home then you need to make sure that what you put into your body reflects this. If you are working hard then you want a body that reflects this and that is down to what you eat as well as what you do to your body. So think about fresh foods, preparing nice meals, eating well and food being varied. Keep food interesting and fun, so you aren’t tempted to give into the pressure of healthy, fast food.
